Safaricom and Telkom Kenya subscribers have been hit by a data outage since the morning of Sunday 22nd July.
It is reported that multiple fiber cuts are the cause of this issue. One of the fiber cut has been traced to the Sultan – Mtito link and technicians are currently addressing the issue.
Safaricom subscribers across the country have not been able to access data while those on the Eastern and Coastal regions have not been able to access both data and voice.
Though Safaricom has assured clients that M-Pesa should work fine on 2G, some subscribers have complained that they are not able to transact.
Some government services hosted on Safaricom, such as IFMIS and eCitizen have not been accessible as a result of the cut.
Subscribers on other service providers such as Airtel and JTL Faiba have not been affected by the outage. Telkom Kenya subscribers in some other parts of the country have also not experienced any problems.
The last time Safaricom suffered a major outage was when the under-sea fiber was being laid.
Safaricom was able to resolve the issue by 2:00pm. A press statement from the company indicated that both voice and data services have been restored.
