Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed has just released this year’s KCSE results.
Speaking while releasing the results, Amina said the expedited process was meant to fulfil her Ministry’s earlier promise that candidates, their parents and/or guardians will head into Christmas knowing results.
Female candidates outshined their male peers in English, Kiswahili, Religious studies, Home Science and Metal Work.
This year’s top student is Otieno Irine Otieno from Nairobi’s Pangani Girls, having scored a straight A of 87.644 points.
Kamau Josephat Mwangi is the most improved student, after scoring an A-.
Here are what the numbers look like so far:
- A total of 660,204 candidates sat for this year’s exams, of which 338,628 were male (51.29%) while 321,576 (48.71%) were female.
- A total of 315 candidates scored straight A’s, a significant rise from 142 who attained the same grade in last year’s KCSE.
- 90,377 candidates scored C+ and above
On matters cheating, the CS said results of 100 candidates have been cancelled over irregularities. 6 masterminds were arrested for abetting cheating while some centres have had their results withheld.
